Misuse of antibiotic is a common problem worldwide; of the common features of this problem were failure to complete the course of treatment, skipping doses, reusing leftover antibiotics, or self-treatment with antibiotics. This indeed can have a negative impact on individuals and community on both economic and health levels. It was established that misusing antibiotics might be a major determinant in the development of bacterial resistance, which became a major global public health problem. In Jordan, antibiotic misuse was highly extended with high prevalence of self-medication and inappropriate use of antibiotics. For understanding the growing resistance to antibiotics and the health problems associated with their inappropriate use. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence and the risk factors associated with antibiotic misuse among Al-Hussein Bin Talal University Community

This preface begins with sadness because my co-author, friend and colleague died on 6th January 2014. She was just 53 years old. As soon as she knew she was going to die we sat down together in a nice restaurant and considered our options with writing the third edition of this book, and who should now write her chapters. This was accompanied by some tears but also humour as Christine and I worked diligently over our lunch, turning from work to reflection on where we began with the ideas for a book of this kind, along with Christine's recollections during her doctorate study of what hairdressers and others believe mental health to be. Some interesting perceptions. The history of the book as seen in the first edition stems from developing and teaching a transcultural nursing and healthcare module but without enough resources that focused on United Kingdom health and social care.

Aim To measure the psychometric properties, reliability and validity of a tool that explores factors influencing the adoption of principles of evidence-based in nursing practice in Jordan. Background The use of principles of evidenced-based practice in nursing practice has been widely endorsed in many countries around the world; these principles have not yet been implemented in Jordan. Factors influencing the adoption of evidence-based practice in Jordanian nursing context were not identified to date. Methods A descriptive, cross-sectional research design approached experienced nurses from different specialties across Jordan (3 military, 3 governmental and 5 private hospitals). Results The psychometric properties indicated a valid and reliable tool. It consisted of three factors: personal characteristics; source of professional knowledge; and organizational environment

Most of the literature failed to give an exact meaning for the end-of-life or the end-of-life care. However, there are some authors tried to give a brief description of this term. These two descriptions seem vague and general. Finding an exact or comprehensive definition of end- of-life care seems very difficult. Findings from the reviewed studies in this study provide overlapping views and perceptions regarding the expected outcomes of allowing family- witnessed resuscitation (FWR). For family members, the majority of the reviewed studies show that family members would like to attend their loved ones' CPR. Many of them stated that this is one of their rights. For patients, most of them thought that FWR is convenient and would support the resuscitated patient. However, a few patients expressed concerns regarding the effect of this p resence on health professionals' performance

Needle stick injury (NSI) is one of the major causes of blood borne infections in the present day healthcare system. Among healthcare professionals, nursing students will most likely be exposed to this dilemma. Interventions like institutionalizing educational programs to produce awareness and knowledge among nurses can depict positive outcomes in changing perceptions toward safety measures. This study aimed to investigate the incidence, perspectives, views, perceptions, and knowledge of NSIs among nursing students studying at Al-Hussein Bin Talal University. The sample population consisted of all undergraduate nursing students from second to fourth academic levels at the university who consented to participate in this study. The mode of data collection utilized a self-structured questionnaire apportioned into four parts.

Worldwide, sexual dysfunction is common among men regardless of age, ethnicity or cultural background therefore it is not unreasonable to assume such a problem exists within Jordan, despite the limited evidence available. This research examines the role of nurses in practice, nursing education and the impact of the Jordanian culture on the care of men with sexual dysfunction. The case study, using quantitative and qualitative mixed methods, questionnaires and semistructured interviews, explored in-depth the interplay of three key concepts: nurses' experiences, education and culture. Study instruments were translated, back-translated to establish semantic equivalence, then administered in Arabic or English (as preferred) to 462 nurses in the target population. Of these, 261 (58%) nurses completed the questionnaire, 17 of which agreed to take part in an interview.

Background: Quality of care and related hospital services are core concern for healthcare providers and consumers that need improvement in Jordan and worldwide. Purpose: The study aims at exploring patients’ perception of the quality of nursing care and related hospital services among Jordanian inpatients along with their intent to revisit the same hospital. Methods: A descriptive design that utilizes cross-sectional survey was used to collect data through self-reported questionnaires. Eight Hospitals with more than 300 beds capacity were randomly selected from the four healthcare sectors in Jordan. Participants involved in this study were 148 of current patients admitted to hospitals in Jordan. Results: The average reported perception level was 3.4/5 which considered low. The results of the Student’s t- test showed a statistically significant difference in scoring of quality of nursing care (t (145) = 8.001, P = 0.000). Patients who have intent to revisit the hospital scored significantly higher (M = 3.72, SD = 0.60) than patients who did not have intent to revisit the hospitals (M = 2.73, SD = 0.75) Conclusion: Jordanian healthcare organizations have performed below the average in providing quality care, which considered significant to hospital administrators and directors of nursing. Implications for nursing management: Hospital administrators and directors of nursing should be constantly implementing quality management in order to provide high quality services. Therefore, they need to focus more on patient satisfaction as an indicator for quality of care. What is already known about the topic?: Patients have different criteria in evaluating nursing care. 1. Work environment has some effects on service quality. 2. Adequate nurse staffing is a key point to improve the quality of patient care. 3. Quality of care form nurses perspectives. 4. Little is known on how patients perceive nursing care. What this paper adds?: Poor quality of nursing care and related hospital services was performed by healthcare institutions in Jordan as perceived by patients. 1. The quality of bedside nursing care is constantly affected by the related hospital services. This study has important implications for hospital administrators and directors of nursing.

BACKGROUND: Sexual health problems are common among different health conditions such as cancer, diabetes mellitus and heart diseases. Little has been published on why and what factors behind hesitance to seek help and hiding the problem. METHODS: The study explored the extent to which men suffering from sexual dysfunction are willing to discuss their sexual concerns and care needs with nurses. A qualitative exploratory approach was used to explore men’s perspectives on nurses’ role in providing men’s sexual healthcare in Jordan. Data were collected through semi-structural interviews from 16 men with sexual health problems secondary to chronic health conditions. RESULTS: Four themes were derived from the data; men’s perceptions about sexual healthcare, ability of men to seek help from nurses, barriers to seeking help, and desired sources for help. Men reported that they would not seek help from nurses; they preferred using other sources, including internet, friends and other men with similar experiences. CONCLUSIONS and discussion: closed social and family structure limited men’s willingness to seek help for their sexual problems in Jordan leaving them untreated, which might then threaten their general health and wellbeing. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: Nursing is a profession that deals with human as a whole and the sexual health care was not part of nurses’ daily care for men. Therefore, this study added a view to nurses and health care professionals to consider sexual health care as part of their sexual health care for men. This might be through developing a multidisciplinary service for men.

The Prevalence of Psychosomatic Symptoms and Spirituality Levels among University Students in South Jordan

Psychosomatic symptoms are present in various stages of life. University students have also manifested such symptoms, which were also found to be linked to the level of spirituality affecting physical and psychological well-being. This study aims to examine whether spirituality can predict the presence of psychosomatic symptoms by investigating the relationship between the prevalence of psychosomatic symptoms and the level of spirituality among university students in South Jordan. An exploratory cross-sectional design involving convenience samples and self-administered questionnaires using the twelve-item general health questionnaire including spirituality-based items were used to collect data for this study. A total of 1269 completed the study questionnaire. Students' responses indicated various psychosomatic symptoms causing issues to better academic achievement
