 The Idea Of The Conference
  In 2007 UNESCO ASPnet 1987 regional office in AmmanJordan and the Life-Link program agreed to work together for a pilot project involving 50 schools in Arab countries plus 50 schools world-wide 

The two actions decided at a planning workshop in Amman May 2007 were Culture of Care à Culture for Peace (October 2007) and Water for Life (March 2008). These themes are in harmony with the UN and UNESCO declared decades Culture of  Peace, Water for Life, Education for Sustainable Development and Decade for Disarmament. The actions have their roots in the Life-Link ethics Care for Myself – Care for Others 

– Care for Nature.
Teachers Guidelines for the two actions have been formulated, and at each participating school, classes have performed 3 lessons and 2 selfstudies/fieldstudies within each of the actions. An evaluation workshop in December 2007 showed good results and reactions from the Culture of Care à Culture for Peace action. A final evaluation workshop and conference will now be performed in Petra Jordan 2-6 June 2008. The second action Water for Life has attracted even more schools and countries, and this action also involves a Dialogue-Schools phase when each participating school exchanges Water for Life experiences with


The Nabataeans greatest accomplishment was probably their system of water management. They developed a system to collect rainwater using water channels, pipes, and underground cisterns. Added to this, they developed very strong, waterproof cement, some of which is still in existence to this day.
Throughout the city of Petraare hundreds of underground water cisterns. Every possible drop of rainwater, as well as the water piped into the city was stored and used late
 Along the left hand side of the siq, a covered water channel used to bring water from the spring in Wadi Musa into the center of Petra
Along the right hand side of the siq, clay water pipes brought water into the city.
