The department of Hotel and Tourism Services Management was established in 2005 to satisfy the need for educated and qualified gradates in the hotels and tourism establishments in the surrounded area. Jordan, in general and Petra in specific is in need for a large number of qualified employees for the hotel and tourism sector since it witnesses a high growth, especially after Petra became one of the new seven wonders in 2007.

The department aims to provide students with a high quality and comprehensive tourism and hospitality management education in a tolerant environment supported with a series of practical learning opportunities at one of the world's premiere destinations, where more than 70 hotel and tourism establishments are located.

The department awards Bachelor degree in three areas:

1-  Hotel Management:  The course outline focuses on learning the hotel operations (Front office, food and beverage, conventions, housekeeping) , management skills (marketing, finance, human resources, visibility studies), food and nutrition, communication and culture skills,  and research skills. All are applied practically in a one-term industry placement.

2-   Hotel Management / Marketing: in addition to the previously mentioned outline, this course focuses on learning more about the marketing field where strategic marketing, pricing policies, consumer behavior and e-marketing are taught.

3-  Tourism Management: this course includes learning about tourism fields (medical, echo, cultural, religious), tourism guidance, and management (marketing, finance, human resources, visibility studies), and research skills. All are applied practically in a one-term industry placement. 

For the purpose of the practical application within specific designed courses, the department has fully equipped simulation laboratories: training kitchen (Food production Lab.), training restaurant (Food service Lab.), training room division area (Housekeeping Lab.), and training reception area. 

All the above facts make the department an ideal learning environment for students who seek to build and improve their knowledge and skills in hotel and tourism related areas for an easy and guaranteed employment in the related industries.
