The Archaeology of the Nabataean Kingdom

Course Description:

This course will cover the following subjects: Edom at the end of Iron Age, the coming of the Nabataeans, the ethnic origin of the Nabataeans, sources of the study of the Nabataeans with critical assessment to each source, the social aspect of the early Nabataeans, the rise of the Nabataean kingdom and their political and dynastic history, the transformation of the Nabataean society and the sedentarization, the settlement pattern, the economy of the Nabataeans to include trade, agriculture and industry, the religion of the Nabataeans, the Nabataean art and material cultures to include the Petra rock-cut tombs and the Nabataean social structure.
